Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur
After years of setting goals and asking God to bless them, Shae Bynes flipped the script and began asking God to lead her instead. She now leads Kingdom Driven Entrepreneurs, an organization that mentors entrepreneurs on how to partner with God in their business. Watch stories from various business owners as they reveal the power of listening to the voice of the Lord.
I’m Shay Bynes, founder and chief fire igniter of Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur. Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur, or we often call it KDE. And our whole mission is to inspire, teach, mentor, and advise Christian entrepreneurs who desire to do business and partnership with God. You could do business based off of biblical principles.
You could do business for God’s glory. And those things are all really, really good. But knowing that you can hear him respond and actually get heaven’s wisdom concerning business is a game changer. I did the best I could with what I knew with business. [00:01:00] So I started searching and came across Keen and Firm Entrepreneur.
The pillars that they teach in the programs are amazing. I think it’s not even only for business, it’s just everyday life. There’s a Facebook page that I can go to to get involved in the community. I’m all in. And the more I read and learned about it, it seemed to me a great fit. The Spirit of God just came through that experience, and it changed my life forever.
I’d been at IBM Corporation working in technology for about a decade. It was in 2009 when I was writing out my goals and I really heard the Lord speak to my heart and say, you’re gonna leave this job by June of 2010. I’ve never heard God speak back to me about what I was speaking to Him about concerning my life in that way.
Especially in my work life. So that was new and I knew that that was God. And I’m at this business conference. I’m getting ready to go to the last session, ironing my clothes, getting ready to go. And I heard from the Lord again in a way that I actually have never heard from [00:02:00] him like this since. And it was go.
I knew it was God. I knew what the go was about. I didn’t know where I was going. I didn’t know why I was going, but I knew he wanted me to go. Welcome back to the Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur Podcast. This is your host Shay Bind, and our goal here is to inspire you to operate your business completely yielded and in partnership with our awesome and limitless God.
Being a kingdom driven entrepreneur is not the same thing as being a Christian who happens to be a business owner. And so from there, funny enough, I didn’t even know what a kingdom driven entrepreneur was. And so it’s like, okay, Lord. Well, what is a kingdom driven entrepreneur? A kingdom driven entrepreneur is motivated by seeing an increase of the kingdom of God through the work they do in business.
You know, God’s always speaking. There’s always something that’s on his heart that you can grab hold of. You can always tune into the station of what, you know, what is the conversation of heaven concerning you, concerning your life. And so one of the things that we’re really keen about is [00:03:00] really helping people to tap into how God speaks most to them.
You know, taking it out of the box. Yes, he’s going to absolutely meet you as you’re reading the scripture, but you know what? He’ll also reach you while you’re taking a walk. He reaches me often when I’m sitting by water, right? There’s certain things that I’ll see in pictures. Certain things that I hear is just kind of a thought that comes through my mind.
This is what we call a thought impression. And I think that’s actually a really big part of what we do, and what makes it possible for people to grow in him, is to realize that they are not boxed in. One of the first and earliest experience I had was in a one on one call with the mentor that I was assigned to.
She suggested that we should ask the Holy Spirit a question. And I said, okay. I said, right now? She said, right now. I said, okay. I closed my eyes and I said, Father God. And she right away said, no, no, no, no, no. We’re not praying. We’re just asking the Holy Spirit a question. I said, what does that mean? That this is completely new to me.[00:04:00]
Nobody had ever taught me, how do you do that? What does that look like? And so she walked me through a relationship. I had a compartmentalized life. So I was engaged with God as related to my marriage. as it related to being a mom, but I just did it for whatever reason. There was just this block in terms of his interest and engagement in my work life and certainly in starting a business or growing a business.
So it was just that acknowledgement that his presence is here and that he has wisdom, strategy, insight, a heart for this. that allowed me to at least start to pay attention. I started really asking Holy Spirit to show me what my employees needed. Like, what do they really need from me? Well, in the case of this particular employee, they needed the freedom to be able to step out and go take care of something that was happening at home.
But if I had never looked at her from the standpoint of what does she need as opposed to what do I need from her as an employer, I wouldn’t have been able [00:05:00] to see that. Well, as soon as I started recognizing that and giving her what she needed, how she worked for me completely shifted. I love hearing about the encounters people are having with God, because ultimately in all of this, It’s us getting to know more of who he is and who we are in him and how he’s expressed through us to the world.
So everything that people share with me, where they’re growing and all of that, that’s a reward because I know that’s an eternal reward that goes on for generation upon generation upon generation. There’s a module inside of the program. It’s called Kingdom Confrontation. Something had happened and I said, you know what, let me just let it slide, let, you know, I’m just going to let it pass.
It was like God used Shea’s voice to come up and I heard, and heard the word Kingdom Confrontation. And I said, Oh, okay, Lord, I’m going to, I’m going to confront. It was a beautiful, beautiful outcome. Uh, we were able to mend the relationship. Like if I would have waited 24, if I would have waited literally 48 hours, it would have been too late.
It’s work with me, [00:06:00] walk with me, you know, watch how I do it. Keep company with me. And that changed everything for me. I think very differently than I did when I first started. I really thought it was all on me to solve it, all on me to take care of it, all of me to do all the things. Even if I hurt people, it still is all about me.
When we’re doing something and it has the weight of I’m doing this for God, then all of a sudden we feel the weight of it. If you do things for God, you might give him something that he didn’t ask for. But if you’re doing it with him, he’s leading you the whole step of the way. Hey, that thing that you’re about to do here.
Yeah, I don’t, I don’t want it that way. I would prefer you do it like this because of this, that, and the other, right? He’ll give us understanding in a moment to
show us why he has us doing things a certain way. There’s nothing better than doing all things with God. Not just some things, not just one area of your life, but actually surrendering it all to him.
That just one step of faith. [00:07:00] One step of obedience, another step of faith, another step of obedience is enough. It’s more than enough
