Kingdom Leadership Workshop: What It Really Looks Like to Lead a Kingdom Business

There’s no divide between the secular and the sacred.

It’s a simple statement. But living it out on an ordinary Tuesday — when there are people to lead, numbers to hit, difficult decisions to make, and a business to steward — is another thing entirely. That’s why Kingdom leadership isn’t a philosophy you adopt; it’s something you practice.

At Betenbough Companies, we’ve been practicing just that for more than 30 years, and we share what we’ve learned with business owners and CEOs at the Kingdom at Work Kingdom Leadership Workshop.

Practitioners, Not Philosophers

Betenbough Homes began in 1992 when father-and-son team Ron and Rick Betenbough set out to build affordable homes and honor God through their business. Over time, as their own relationships with the Lord deepened, so did their understanding of what it meant for a business to belong to Him.

Today, Betenbough Companies includes six businesses and more than 400 team members. The generations of leadership have changed, but the conviction hasn’t: God owns it. We steward it.

That doesn’t mean we’ve figured it all out. Quite the opposite.

We’ve navigated growth, organizational change, conflict, communication challenges, leadership transitions, and decisions that directly affect people and their families. Our executive leadership team has learned to fast and pray together. They’ve learned to listen for the Lord’s direction together. They’ve learned to apologize. And sometimes, they’ve learned what not to do by doing it first.

As Rick Betenbough used to say, “Good leaders walk with a limp.”

That’s why our Kingdom Leadership Workshop isn’t built around professional speakers telling you what leadership should look like. It’s led by executives who are actively doing the work every day. You’ll hear the victories (and the failures) from leaders who are navigating the same kinds of decisions you are.

Because we’re not philosophers. We’re practitioners.

Kingdom Leadership Gets Practical — Fast

Some leaders are tempted to bring faith into their business via a set of values on the wall or a Bible verse in the company handbook. But what happens when the decision in front of you requires more than spirituality as branding?

What does generous stewardship look like when your business has to make cuts? How do you pursue unity when people strongly disagree? How vulnerable should a leader be with those they lead? How do you maintain a healthy Kingdom culture as your organization grows? How do you hear from God about a decision that affects hundreds of His kids?

Those aren’t hypothetical questions for us.

They’re the kinds of questions we’ve had to work through ourselves — and the kinds of conversations that happen at the Kingdom Leadership Workshop.

During the Workshop, keynotes from Betenbough executive leaders tee up conversations at your table, where table coaches who have walked through hard things help you wrestle with how these principles apply in your business. Breakout sessions dig into specific topics like Kingdom culture in the marketplace and building healthy teams.

We call it a Workshop for a reason. You’ll do real work here.

You Weren’t Meant to Carry This Alone

For many Christian business leaders, one of the hardest parts of Kingdom leadership is loneliness.

Maybe no one else in your industry seems to think this way. Maybe you’re the CEO or owner and feel pressure to have the answers. Maybe you believe God has more for your business but don’t feel qualified to be its spiritual leader.

Or maybe you’ve spent years keeping your faith over here and your business over there, but you’re beginning to wonder if God ever intended them to be separate.

At the Workshop, you’ll spend three days with leaders asking those same questions.

You’ll hear testimonies of what God is doing in businesses around the world. You’ll talk openly with other CEOs, founders, owners, and senior leaders. You’ll have space away from the normal bubble of your business to listen, process, pray, and ask God what His plan is for your organization.

Because this isn’t about doing business the Betenbough way. It’s about hearing from God on His way for your business.

What Does It Cost Not to Go?

Taking three days away from the office is an investment. You can easily calculate the costs of stepping away.

But what about the cost of continuing to carry leadership alone?

The loneliness. The burnout. The years spent learning lessons someone else could have helped you navigate. The feeling that your faith makes sense on Sunday but you don’t know where it fits Monday through Friday in business.

When Betenbough began experiencing the Kingdom of God in the middle of an average workweek, Jeanna described it like life becoming full color. That’s what we want other leaders to experience — not a copy of Betenbough, but the fullness of what God wants to do through their businesses.

Come With Open Hands

So why come to Lubbock, Texas? We’ll be the first to tell you: it’s flat, dry, and dusty.

Come anyway.

Come for the people. Come hear the stories of God’s faithfulness. Come sit beside leaders from all over who are trying to hear from Him just like you are. Come with your senior leadership team so you can wrestle with big ideas together — or, if you’re a solopreneur, bring your spouse.

Most importantly, come open-handed.

That’s our invitation to CEOs and business owners. You don’t have to arrive with the answers. You don’t have to know how to hear from God. You don’t even have to know exactly what you need from these three days.

Ask God if it’s time.

And if He says yes, come ready to receive whatever He has for you.
